Psicologia Social, Comunicação e Cultura
Keywords:
social psychology, communication, culture, transdisciplinaritySynopsis
This book is primarily intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the social sciences and humanities. It stems from the authors’ professional experience in diverse cultural contexts and from debates held both inside and outside the classroom. Empirical research conducted by the authors is discussed in several chapters, based on the conviction that higher education must be permanently updated through scientific inquiry. Accordingly, alongside a discussion of internationally recognised “classical” authors, the book also highlights research carried out in Portuguese-speaking countries. This strategy seeks to give visibility to knowledge produced in these contexts, emphasising the importance of situated knowledge that takes into account the sociocultural contexts in which it is generated.
Social psychology is presented as a core discipline within the field of communication and culture studies, encompassing different levels of analysis and representing one of the cornerstones of communication studies. In recent years, efforts at theoretical integration have fostered growing transdisciplinarity, opening new ways of understanding complex social phenomena. A solid cultural and humanistic education is essential for communication professionals who can critically analyse social reality, develop transversal skills, and engage effectively in constantly changing social and professional environments. In this context, social psychology provides analytical tools for understanding and critically discussing human communication across diverse settings, offering valuable resources for both theoretical reflection and the analysis of practical cases and current issues.
