Crianças, Jovens e Media na Era Digital: Consumidores e Produtores?

Na era digital em que vivemos, as crianças e os jovens assumem um papel ativo na relação com os media, tendo sido praticamente ultrapassada a visão de consumidores passivos e indefesos. Pelas possibilidades e oportunidades de interação e de participação que os meios digitais trouxeram, o público mais novo é visto — por vezes exaltado — como consumidor e como produtor de conteúdos, sendo apelidados de prosumers ou produsers. Este livro pretende discutir criticamente estes conceitos e desmontar o posicionamento determinista que dá a participação como garantida apenas pelo acesso aos media. Esta discussão é enquadrada pela distinção entre “pequenos atos de envolvimento” e cultura participativa. Tendo por base dados provenientes de vários estudos empíricos, mostra-se que as práticas mediáticas de crianças e jovens se orientam mais pelo consumo do que pela produção e que as vias para a participação nem sempre têm por detrás princípios de expressão e de cidadania. A ideia de um ambiente mediático rico e diversificado e de públicos exigentes, críticos e participativos leva-nos a apontar a literacia mediática como uma competência fundamental do século XXI e um direito de todas as crianças e jovens.
